Although I do the blog just for the fun of playing with toy soldiers, some people occasionally find it helpful in their toy soldering. And although I'm far from an expert, I'll try to answer your questions.

All army trousers were set up for suspenders. Belt loops on army trousers didn't become standard issue until 1904.

Shirts were a variety of colors: small checked, light, medium, and dark blue, striped, red, especially white. Two wonderful pictorials that can give you photo examples are Echoes of Glory: Arms and Equipment of the Civil War (Time Life) and The Fight Men of the Civil War (various publishers including Gallery and Smithmark).

Regarding the colors of houses and outbuildings, you can't go wrong with white as white wash was one of the most common paints/preservatives of that era. Other colors could include federal blue (which is a blue/gray) and buff.

I'm not familiar with Gung Ho 7th Cavalry figures.

I think you'll enjoy Antietam. It is considered the most pristine of the battlefield parks. I worked there as a park ranger for eight years. It's a remarkable place.

I hope that you find this helpful.

Soldier on!

MannieMannie Gentilehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06225923971073419275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7136289990566725685.post-60129766342769347392016-11-12T00:33:31.169-08:002016-11-12T00:33:31.169-08:00Great post!

Been at collecting ACW stuff for a year, and I have just about all the figures I want. I have a few questions to ask, that I'm sure you can help me with. I have a large group of Union dismounted Cavalry, some I converted into Cavalry. Some of them don't have the shell jacket, just a shirt with suspenders, since they were originally 7th Cavalry types. Did the Cav have suspenders under the jackets? What color most likely were the shirts underneath? 2nd, I have 2 BMC houses, 1 New Ray House, and eventually I'll get the TSSD 2 story clapboard house (Meade HQ) and the Robinson family Barn (long ramp entry). This question is, what colors should they be, given the time period, and location would be Missouri/Tennessee (not a real historic battle, rather a compilation using all the figures I have). Last question: any idea where I can purchase the OOP Gung Ho 7th Cavalry figures? Keep up the great work, and thanks for all you do. PS Recently visited Mannasas; and Gettysburgh last year. Antietam coming up in '17. My first BMC gettysburg box came from Gettysburg, and my second one came from Shilo. Those figures are still the core of my collection.
Brianne, You may call me Mistressynesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00855760861411516801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7136289990566725685.post-66205951754517562602016-11-11T14:44:47.445-08:002016-11-11T14:44:47.445-08:00What a lovely post!
