Battle of Guam, progress report video.
Don't be scared by this still frame of me. This is an update on the project. It's swallowing me alive, and I couldn't be happier about it. Wear a mask, practice social distancing, stay healthy, and... Soldier on! Mannie
Hey Mannie, I am enjoying this as my Dad was on Guam during the war. He was a naval ordinance man who landed right at the end of the battle and was there until he was rotated home in Dec. Of '45. He helped establish and worked in one of the bomb dumps that supplied the B-29's used in the bombing campaign agaist the home islands. I still have his olive drab fatigue cap. It was greasy and black with sweat. Mom wouldn't allow it out of the workshop. My Dad used to say to me, "Stick your nose in here and take a whiff... that's the smell of the South Pacific..." So, I grew up thinking the South Pacific smelled like old jock straps...
Archduke, believe me, I know how fortunate I am. My wife has also given me 75% of the basement, and that's where the toy soldier table is.
Unknown, I know what he was talking about. I did the same thing with one of the books that I kept on the island...I opened it up and said to my wife: "Smell this and you smell Guam."
