I know, I know...two weeks ago, I proclaimed the toy soldier as finished and complete.   Turns out I was wrong.

Everything out there is so perfect (to me) that any discrepancy sticks out like a sore thumb.  Last week, I was sitting out there drinking in that delightful space and my eyes fell upon the one unimproved corner...an ugly hodgepodge of cast-off junk...it was a totally non-functional space.

Finishing touches in the toy soldier studio

After fourteen years of construction, additions, and fine-tuning, I think that I can say that the toy soldier studio is now complete. 

Last week I finished some odds and ends as well as one major project.

I love spending time out there, but all this time, the clutter under the battle table has been a really unpleasant distraction, in an otherwise sublimely pleasant place.

Some measurements, a drawing, a visit to Lowes's and Amazon, and I got to work.

I couldn't be happier with the result.

Fifteen minutes of fame

In the Spring of 2014, Dana Shoaf, editor of Civil War Times magazine, suggested an article on my toy soldier efforts.  A couple of weeks later he and his crew showed up for a very jolly morning.

It was nice to have this opportunity to show off the collection to a new audience.

When they left, one of them said goodbye with...

"Soldier on!"
